1) Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services

This residence status is primarily intended for individuals working in companies as engineers, administrative staff, or interpreters.

2) Intra-company Transferee

This status is designed for employees being relocated from a foreign branch or headquarters to a Japanese office within the same corporate group.

3) Highly Skilled Professional

This residence status applies to individuals invited by Japanese institutions to work as researchers at universities or research organizations, or to serve as corporate executives.

4) Skilled Worker

This residence status is designated for individuals with specialized skills who engage in work that utilizes those abilities. Examples include chefs preparing ethnic cuisine and aircraft pilots.

5) Care Worker

This residence status is designated for individuals who work in the caregiving field in Japan. To qualify, applicants must hold a Japanese certification as a certified care worker (Kaigo Fukushishi).

6) Student

This residence status is required for individuals who come to Japan to pursue studies of any kind, including enrollment in Japanese language schools.

7) Business Manager

This residence status is for individuals who establish a company in Japan and serve as its representative, or who assume an executive role in an existing company based in Japan.

8) Others

Other available residence statuses include Legal / Accounting Services, Medical Services, Instructor, Technical Intern Training, Trainee, Entertainer, Religious Activities, and Specified Skilled Worker. Each of these categories corresponds to an official status of residence as defined by Japan’s immigration authorities.
